Extreme heat and humidity will continue through the end of the holiday week across the eastern U.S., before it shifts westward, roasting the Midwest and Great Plains, potentially setting records and intensifying ongoing wildfires Barnsley Cutout Stretchknit Dress Black Roland Mouret fOOr5XUn
.

Why it matters: Heat is the top weather killer in the U.S. during most years. According to the Superstar Leather Sneakers White Golden Goose Y7ZlH5l
, more than 600 people are killed every year due to heat-related illnesses in the U.S.

Details: Shortly before noon on Monday, the heat index — which is a combination of the air temperature and humidity — in Washington, D.C. had already surged past 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Same for Philadelphia, Baltimore and parts of New York City. The air temperature is forecast to flirt with the century mark from Albany, New York to New York City southward to Washington, with heat indices reaching as high as 110 degrees Fahrenheit or higher, prompting the National Weather Service to issue excessive heat warnings.

Details:

Historical context: The actual air temperatures during this heat wave are not smashing all-time records in most cases, since they're only 10 to 20 degrees Fahrenheit above average for this time of year. However, the combination of heat and humidity, plus the long duration of this event, make it a public health threat.

Historical context:

What's next: The heat should peak along the East Coast on Monday, but high temperatures all week are likely to reach or exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit from the Mid-Atlantic to New England, which may put this event in the top 10 for long duration heat events.

What's next:

Meteorologists define heat waves as occurring once the temperature hits or goes above 90 degrees for at least three consecutive days. Many locations in the East are on their fourth or fifth such day as of Monday, with no relief expected until next weekend.

Leah Won is the Assistant Dean for Employer Outreach at the James E. Rogers College of Law. Asst. Dean Won specializes in employer relations and strategic outreach to law firms, government agencies, non-profit organizations, and corporate employers. She uses market knowledge and employer insights to inform candidate positioning in local, regional, and national job searches, with an emphasis on post-graduate employment opportunities. A graduate of Arizona Law in 2005, Asst. Dean Won represented California school districts and local agencies before returning to the College of Law to serve in its Career Development Office ("CDO").

Based in Phoenix, Asst. Dean Won offices in a space generously donated by the law firm of Gammage Burnham. The downtown Phoenix presence allows her to connect with the largest Arizona Law alumni base in the country, meet with students serving in summer positions in Phoenix, and those interested in transitioning to Phoenix (and beyond) post-graduation. Asst. Dean Won manages the College of Law's most successful interview program—the Arizona Law Phoenix Interview Program—which in its second year brought 20 law firms and over 50 candidates together for a day of OCI-style interviewing. Held in central Phoenix, the convenience of this event allows key law firm decision makers to connect with Arizona Law talent.

Asst. Dean Won's counseling slate is dedicated to the graduating and recently graduated Arizona Law JD classes, though she also works with students and experienced alumni. She spearheads initiatives related to the transition from law student to law graduate, including a graduating class exit interview program, through which three CDO counselors meet individually with every single Arizona Law JD interested in discussing post-graduate career plans. Asst. Dean Won provides the full spectrum of career counseling, from developing job search strategy and career objectives to sharpening application materials to salary and offer negotiations.

Critical to the College of Law’s accreditation reporting, Asst. Dean Won guides the CDO and the Arizona Law graduating class through the ABA-required law graduate employment data collection and reporting process, the most robust and widely-reported employment statistics mandate in graduate education. She also reports on the College of Law's bar passage rate. Asst. Dean Won analyzes this outcome data to drive employer outreach strategy and identify opportunities for Arizona Law students and graduates.

Asst. Dean Won practiced public law in the California Bay Area for several years, representing Northern California school districts and local agencies in both private and government practice. Prior to joining Arizona Law, she served as Deputy General Counsel for the San Francisco Unified School District, with a focus on labor employment, charter schools, and board governance.

Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Vittoria Capresi has been senior researcher at the Habitat Unit since October 2016, as a Principal Investigator of the International European Project MODSCAPES – Modern Reinvention of the Rural Landscapes , a fully granted HERA project (Humanity in the European Research Area).

For the MODSCAPES project she will research on three case studies, the new settlements built under Mussolini in colonial Libya and in the Pontine Plane in Italy, and the changes in the rural landscapes during the GDR in the South-Oderbruch (Brandenburg), Germany.

Vittoria Capresi's research focuses on the role of fascist political architecture and on relating the physical environment with the narratives of the inhabitants, exploring the intersection between planned architecture and lived spaces.

Vittoria started in Cairo her research on how to combine oral history methods with the historical analysis of the built heritage: in 2011 she was appointed as Associate Professor in History of Architecture at the German University – GUC, at the newly established faculty of Architecture, where she developed the curriculum for the history of architecture curse. She focused in fostering a reality-based way of teaching, establishing hands-on seminars, design-build studios, and international workshops, to relate the students with the challenges and potentials of their city.

To support this approach, in 2011 she co-funded "baladilab", initiating a series of participatory projects in Downtown Cairo, involving the local community and architecture students to map, collect, survey and share the architecture of that area. The results are in the book: Downtown Cairo, Architecture and Stories (Jovis 2005) and were exhibited at the Biennale di Venezia in 2016, Egyptian Pavilion.

From 2002 until 2011 she was researching and teaching at the Vienna University of Technology, department Baugeschichte / Bauforschung, where she completed in 2007 her doctoral dissertation. Her Ph.D. focuses on an historical analysis and current urban and political role of the new settlements built in colonial Libya under the fascist regime, and was published in 2010: The built Utopia. The Italian Rural Centres founded in colonial Libya (1934-1940), Bologna: Bonomia University Press.

Vittoria studied architecture at the University in Florence and at the Technical University in Berlin, her Diplom was about the analysis and reuse of the Garbaty former cigarettes factory in Pankow, Berlin.
